Frozen Britain: Bicycle insurer urges UK cyclists to be vigilant in dark and icy conditions as it emerges more than a third have been knocked off their bikes

Frozen Britain: Bicycle insurer urges UK cyclists to be vigilant in dark and icy conditions as it emerges more than a third have been knocked off their bikes

London (PRWEB UK) 9 February 2012

With dark evenings and black ice on the roads, it is one of the most treacherous times of year for UK cyclists. And with more than a third (36%) revealing they have been knocked off their bicycles by cars, vans or lorries at least once while cycling on roads around the country, specialist bicycle insurer Protectyourbubble.com is warning cyclists to be extra cautious.

According to a survey by Protectyourbubble.com, London has the most dangerous roads, with four out of ten (42%) Londoners saying they have been knocked off their bikes at least once, compared to 41% of cyclists living in the East Midlands, 37% in Scotland, 38% in the South West, 27% in East Anglia and a quarter (25%) of cyclists in Wales.

The survey also reveals that cyclists are not always the innocent party, with one in seven (14%) admitting they have damaged a vehicle while riding their bikes. More than twice as many 18-24 year old cyclists (18%) confessed to having damaged a vehicle while riding a bike, compared to cyclists aged 55 years and over (8%).

And it is not just vehicles that are in danger from UK cyclists, with 15% of those polled admitting they have hit pedestrians while riding – and women (17%) slightly more likely to hit pedestrians than men (13%), according to the survey results.

Interestingly, UK cyclists appear to be an impatient bunch, with almost one third (32%) admitting they have jumped red lights at pedestrian crossings, rather than waiting for the green.

Matt Reid, UK director, Protectyourbubble.com comments:

“UK roads are dangerous places and cyclists need to ensure they are safe and prepared at all times, not least when darkness descends, the temperature plummets, and there is black ice and snow on the roads.

“However, it’s not just personal injury that cyclists need to think about. Collisions, even minor ones, can cause significant damage to a bike. We estimate that around 80% of cyclists on UK roads at any one time are not insured, which means if they are in a collision and their bikes are damaged, they could be facing huge bills to have them fixed or replaced.

“Considering that bikes can cost more than £1,000, it is worth considering taking out insurance, particularly for cyclists who really rely on them to travel to and from work every day.

“Public liability cover is too often overlooked, but it’s actually crucial. In the event that a cyclist damages a person, vehicle or property, public liability cover is there to absorb the cost of legal fees or repair work on a damaged vehicle, so the cyclist doesn’t have to pay out of his or her own pocket.

“If you hit a pedestrian who then takes legal action as they cannot work due to their injuries, legal fees and compensation could stretch to hundreds of thousands of pounds, so it really does pay to have this type of protection. Specialist bicycle insurance costs as little at £1.99, so it won’t break the bank.”

Adventure Travel 101: Industry Experts Demystify Adventure Travel

Adventure Travel 101: Industry Experts Demystify Adventure Travel

Providence, RI (PRWEB) September 10, 2009

Adventure touring company Tomgirl Tours, http://www.tomgirltours.com, and Rhode Island travel agency Annie’s Escapes, http://www.anniesescapes.com, will host Adventure Travel 101: Adventure Travel Demystified, a Webinar to answer questions about the popular adventure travel niche, on Sept 23.

During the 45-minute Webinar, Tomgirl Tours Founder Lori Carr and Annie’s Escapes owner Ann Petronio will educate both consumers and travel agents who are curious about adventure travel, but want clarification on fundamental requirements before they feel prepared to embark on their own adventure.

Carr and Petronio decided to offer this unique Webinar because adventure travel–the fastest-growing branch of the leisure travel industry, according to the U.S. Travel Association–is also one of the most misunderstood. Questions regarding itineraries, safety requirements, trip insurance, and suggested fitness levels often prevent people from venturing into the unknown, while questions about who enjoys adventure travel can confound travel agents. The Webinar provides an excellent learning opportunity for both groups but is geared toward consumers interested in learning more about experiencing their own adventure trip.

Travel professionals often use the adjectives hard and soft to define the level of adventure. But even those definitions are ambiguous and activities in the two categories swing to extremes. Adventure Travel 101: Adventure Travel Demystified will explain these levels, while also offering women a middle ground, termed “mildly adventurous”, a term coined by Tomgirl Tours. Carr and Petronio will also answer questions about how to plan an adventure vacation and choose the right tour, while addressing topics like travel goals, destination choices, desired activities and budget planning.

The U.S. Travel Association estimates that one-half of American adults (a staggering 98 million people) have taken an adventure trip in the last five years, and Carr and Petronio, both adventure seekers themselves, are passionate about helping others understand and explore adventure getaways.

Adventure Travel 101: Adventure Travel Demystified will be held at 7 p.m. E.S.T on Sept. 23. To register, click here (https://www2.gotomeeting.com/register/135824866).

The Sweet ‘Pure Life’ Emerges At Costa Rican Surf Camp Pura Vida Adventures

The Sweet ‘Pure Life’ Emerges At Costa Rican Surf Camp Pura Vida Adventures

Malpais, Costa Rica (PRWEB) December 4, 2006

Pura Vida Adventures (http://www.puravidaadventures.com), a surf camp for women located in the seaside village of Malpais, Costa Rica, announces a new home closer to their favorite surf break at the Swiss-owned boutique hotel, The Place. The resort features stylish bungalows and a relaxing atmosphere, completing the Pura Vida Adventures experience. For the active gal yearning to get away from it all but wanting her downtown gal amenities, Pura Vida Adventures – set along the lush Pacific coast – offers just the right place to relax, unwind and embrace the vitality of the adventure of learning to surf.

Escaping the urban jungle for the subtropical jungles and famed surf-breaks of Malpais, Costa Rica, expert and not-so-experienced surfers are transformed by the magical and tranquil atmosphere of the ambient oasis of Malpais during their week-long surf adventure. Surfers set out for daily surf lessons with Pura Vida Adventure’s instructors, who bring infectious energy and a hands-on personal approach to teaching beginners to surf, and enhancing the experienced surfer’s skills.

Surfers embrace the peace and tranquility of daily yoga at sunrise or sunset, and a one-hour massage; activities designed to keep each surfer balanced, flexible and aware. Three fabulously cooked meals nourish the gourmet in each surf diva. The days while at Pura Vida Adventures wind down to relaxing poolside at The Place, with all the amenities a downtown girl could ask for, including an introductory Spanish lesson. As the evenings heat up, bonfires, BBQ’s and the sultry Tropicana Salsa night beckon. Downtime activities include snorkeling through coral reefs, and hiking the nature reserve.

With the philosophy of offering expert surf instruction in a cultural setting with a wellness component, Pura Vida is noted as an enriched experience that literally changes the lives of the women who seek out the simple ‘Pure Life’ characteristic of Pura Vida Adventures. The experience entices a surfer’s inner child to play in Costa Rican waters, learning to surf in a supportive, inspired environment.

Featured in the The New York Times, Vogue and The Miami Herald, Pura Vida Adventures was founded by Tierza Davis, a seasoned traveler who ended up turning a global surf adventure into Pura Vida Adventures, establishing one of the most thriving, and authentic surf camps for women in Costa Rica.

Several times throughout the year, Pura Vida Adventures extends a co-ed invitation to a surf diva’s male cohort, such as the celebrated New Year’s Eve ten-day camp. The Pura Vida Adventure surf safari is a six-day, seven night camp. Rates start at $ 1540 per week for a shared bungalow, or $ 1780 per week for a private bungalow. The cost of the surf safari includes accommodations, food, surf instruction, massage, daily yoga, private Spanish lesson, salsa lesson, and daily outings.

For more information, visit: http://www.puravidaadventures.com.

About Pura Vida Adventures

Pura Vida Adventures was founded by surfer Tierza Davis to introduce women to the magical sport of surfing in a culturally rich location. A world traveler and self-described ‘water girl,’ Tierza found an undeniable connection with the Costa Rican people and culture. She has created these camps to introduce women to the Costa Rican ‘Pura Vida.’ Literal translation: Life is good. Pura Vida Adventures is the pure life, with a focus on expert instruction for women learning to surf. Tierza found the meaning of ‘Pura Vida,’ and, inspired to share it with others, opened Pura Vida Adventures in 2003.

Dating Service Adventure 2000 Offers Arizona’s Best Singles Events, Including the State’s Greatest New Year’s Eve Celebration for Singles

Dating Service Adventure 2000 Offers Arizona’s Best Singles Events, Including the State’s Greatest New Year’s Eve Celebration for Singles

SINGLE? JOIN THE CLUB!!

(PRWEB) November 12, 2008

Adventures Activity Club 2000, Arizona’s best planner of singles events, offers more than what a typical dating service can and is looking to prove it to local singles by offering a trial membership at a special holiday price of just $ 299. The deadline to register is December 31, 2008.

Since 1999, Adventures 2000 has been Arizona’s best and most active singles events club. With nearly 30 professionally staffed events each month ranging from movie nights and wine tastings to white water rafting and ski trips, Adventures 2000 has something to get any single excited.

This year that includes the best New Year’s Eve celebration in Arizona at Adventures Activity Club 10-year anniversary bash located at the Grace Inn in Awatukee. The event begins at 8 p.m. and will include a live DJ with dancing until the ball drops. The evening includes a variety of hors d’oeuvres and complementary champagne toast. Preregister by December 10 and the cost is just $ 45. After December 10, the cost is $ 55.

Adventures 2000 advantages range from its members and price to safety and standing in the community. Adventures 2000 has nearly 1,000 active members to interact with at various events, so members can meet a variety of people instead of the same dozen people at every event.

Adventures 2000, who is an active member of the Arizona Better Business Bureau, can offer its members safety and certainty. Unfortunately, online sites attract many predators and married people pretending to be single, but Adventures 2000 performs a background check on each member to ensure that each person is why they say they are.

To top it off, singles can get all this for a fraction of the cost of mundane dating services. So why spend thousands when Adventures 2000 offers more entertainment and opportunities for just $ 299 this holiday season. Members will save hundreds of dollars over a year’s period by taking advantage of group discounts offered by Adventures 2000.

“You will meet more people and try more activities in 3 months, than you probably did in the last 3 years,” CEO and founder Dan Halbert said. “Sometimes people just need to stop looking for someone to date and start working on their social life. The absolute worst thing someone can do, when coming out of a divorce or break up, is to jump right back into another relationship. Adventures 2000 offers an alternative, to those lonely nights.”

About Adventures Club 2000

Adventures Activity Club 2000 was started in Phoenix in 1999 specifically for Arizona singles tired of the typical dating scene and looking for a new type of dating service. Today, it boasts nearly a 1,000 members and offers as many as 30 singles events a month ranging from dinners to movies to international travel. Adventure 2000 organizes professionally planned singles activities that promote a fun, relaxed atmosphere to meet new people, find friendship, or discover that special someone.
